The National Museum of Ireland is spread over three locations throughout Dublin and one in Mayo. The Archaeology section can be found on Kildare Street and it houses over 2 million different artefacts with displays from Egypt to the Roman Empire. This section was opened in 1890. The top displays here are some prehistoric gold ornaments and a collection of artefacts from the medieval era.
The Decorative Arts & History branch houses a wide selection of furniture, weaponry and glassware and it is situated near Heuston station a few minutes walk from the Archeology section.
The Natural History section is located within a 150 year old building on Merrion Street. It is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment project.
The Country Life is located outside Dublin in Castlebar, Mayo and it has only been open since 2001. This museum looks at life in Ireland during the mid 19th and middle 20th centaury. Here you will learn about farming trades a rural life of Irelands past. |
